FROM PLURR TO PROFIT
-
WHO AM I?
My name is Danielle, a Brand Manager and Content Strategist for companies for over a decade. I am also a fire and flow performer with over 8 years of experience working in the field.

WHAT RESOURCES ARE HERE?
Educational materials related to the cultural origins of prop manipulation, PLURR, influencer ethics, influencers and capitalism and essential context on rave culture as a whole. The educational guides and resources cover topics like integrity versus commodification of art, representation versus appropriation in flow arts / rave culture and visibility versus accountability.

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Because culture is a living relationship…not a resource…Because true influence without community weakens the community…Because no amount of profit should cost us the culture…Because without respect and representation we are just repeating….put simply, because PLURR was never meant to be just a hashtag!
This entire page and the documents linked are works in progress. My hope is to receive community input to ensure they become concise yet mighty hubs of knowledge for the entire rave and flow community. These will always be free community resources. Please email daamnnnndanielle@gmail.com with any questions or feedback. These are intended to be starting points, but not all-encompassing guides. Thanks for taking a look!
Ethical Influence & Cultural Integrity: Quick Reminders to Avoid the Exploitation of PLURR Culture
“They’re commodifying PLURR.” Have you heard this before? What if there was a handout that explained just what this means and how to avoid doing it?
Here is a simple PDF that is a starting point for visual ethics frameworks in the flow arts and rave scene. It is intended to showcase just how influencer culture, social “clout” hierarchies and lifestyle branding can distort PLURR values.
Key issues covered include performative PLURR by both influencers and companies. I also have practical suggestions on how to avoid this and maintain that authenticity you strive for while having consent and community respect.
Resources: Background on Raves, Flow Arts, and Cultural Origins
I curated a reference chart that helps to connect the historical, Indigenous, queer and POC origins of rave culture as well as flow arts. It is designed as a starting point to help creators, companies and marketers research ethically. It is crucial we honor the communities that shaped modern performance culture and this is intended to be your springboard to learn more.
From PLURR to Profit: Cultural Appropriation
A quick PDF that is a starting point for brands and creators. This includes some tips on identifying cultural appropriation in flow arts, performances and marketing. I also provide recommendations based on respectful collaboration, accurate crediting and inclusive storytelling.
Note: These are works in progress and anybody is welcome to provide feedback. The sole purpose of this document is to be a starting point, not a comprehensive guide.
